Ein Treiber ist das, was dem Rechner sagt, wie er mit einem eingebauten
Teil reden soll. Fehlt er, bleibt die Grafikkarte lahm, das WLAN stumm oder der Drucker
stumpf. Das Ärgerliche daran: Man merkt es, aber man sieht nicht, woran es liegt.
A driver is what tells the computer how to talk to a built-in part.
Without it the graphics card stays slow, the wireless silent or the printer dead. The
annoying part: you notice it, but you cannot see what is missing.
Es gibt bereits Treiberverwaltungen für Linux. Nur decken sie einen Bruchteil
ab: Grafik und WLAN — sonst nichts. In ihrem Quelltext kommen die Wörter „Drucker" und
„Scanner" kein einziges Mal vor. Dabei ist gerade der Drucker das, woran Umsteiger
scheitern.
Driver managers for Linux already exist. But they cover a fraction:
graphics and wireless — nothing else. The words “printer” and “scanner” do not appear
in their source code even once. Yet the printer is exactly where newcomers get stuck.

Grafik. Du darfst den Treiber selbst wählen: die von Debian geprüfte Fassung — oder die eigene Bezugsquelle des Herstellers, damit dein Rechner neuere Treiber künftig von allein mitbekommt. Jede Quelle lässt sich mit demselben Knopf wieder abschalten.
Drucker und Scanner. Genau der Teil, den kein anderes Treiberprogramm anfasst — die Werkzeuge von Linux Mint und Ubuntu kümmern sich nur um Grafik und WLAN. Hier sind moderne Drucker dabei, die gar keinen Treiber brauchen, und ältere, die einen brauchen.
Netzwerk und WLAN.

Graphics. You may pick the driver yourself: the version Debian has tested — or the manufacturer’s own package source, so your machine keeps getting newer drivers by itself. Every source can be switched off again with the same button.
Printers and scanners. Exactly the part no other driver manager touches — the tools shipped with Linux Mint and Ubuntu only deal with graphics and wireless. Here both are covered: modern printers that need no driver at all, and older ones that do.
Network and wireless.
Bluetooth. On a fresh Debian the chip, the driver and the firmware are all there — only the program that operates Bluetooth is missing. The desktop switch then looks dead. That is exactly what it names, and fixes with one click.

Einmal eintragen — und jede neue Fassung kommt von selbst.
Set it up once — every new version then arrives on its own.
Bisher musstest du für jede neue Fassung wieder auf diese Seite kommen und die
Datei von Hand holen. Es geht auch anders: Rikus Treiber hat eine
eigene Paketquelle. Das ist dieselbe Technik, mit der dein System auch alle anderen
Programme aktuell hält. Du trägst sie einmal ein — danach erscheint jede neue Fassung
ganz normal bei deinen Systemaktualisierungen, ohne dass du etwas tun musst.
Until now you had to come back to this page for every new version and fetch the
file by hand. There is also another way: Rikus Treiber has its
own package source. It is the same technique your system uses to keep all other
programs current. You add it once — after that every new version simply shows up with
your normal system updates, with nothing left for you to do.
Schritt 1 — den Schlüssel holen. Damit erkennt dein Rechner, dass die
Pakete wirklich von uns kommen und unterwegs niemand etwas verändert hat. Auf frisch installierten Rechnern fehlt oft das kleine Programm curl – der Befehl holt es gleich mit:

Beim ersten Start fragt das Programm weiter nach deinem Code. Daran
ändert die Paketquelle nichts — sie erspart dir nur das Herunterladen von Hand.

Es bricht mit einer Meldung über Abhängigkeiten ab? Das passiert auf Debian 13 und LMDE 7, wenn dort das Zusatzlager backports eingeschaltet ist und schon Pakete daraus benutzt werden, zum Beispiel für Hyprland. Dann passen zwei Bausteine nicht zusammen. So klappt es:

Der einfache Weg: Auf „Kostenlos anfordern" klicken und die Datei anschließend
doppelt anklicken. Die Software-Verwaltung Ihres Systems öffnet sich und installiert
das Programm.

Wichtig: Der Befehl muss auf dem Rechner laufen, auf dem die Datei wirklich liegt. Meldet dein System „Nicht unterstützte Datei … auf Befehlszeile angegeben“, ist die Datei dort nicht vorhanden — das Paket ist in Ordnung. Meist stimmt der Ordner nicht, oder man sitzt über eine Fernverbindung auf einem anderen Rechner.
Important: run the command on the machine where the file actually is. If your system says “unsupported file … on the command line”, the file is not there — the package is fine. Usually it is the wrong folder, or you are on a different machine over a remote connection.
Danach steht Rikus Treiber im Startmenü unter „System".

dpkg, apt, curl,

automatisch mit — auf einem gewöhnlichen Debian ist ohnehin fast alles schon da.
pkexec ist Pflicht: Es ist die Passwortabfrage, ohne die das Programm nichts
einrichten könnte.
Requirements — needed:python3, python3-gi,
python3-gi-cairo (draws the icons), gir1.2-gtk-3.0,
dpkg, apt, curl,
pkexec (called policykit-1 on older systems),
pciutils, kmod (shows the running graphics driver) and
libfontconfig1 (the font in the window). All of it is pulled in automatically by apt —
on an ordinary Debian nearly everything is present anyway. pkexec is mandatory:
it is the password prompt, without which the program could not set anything up.

(Scanner). Damit arbeiten alle zehn Bereiche vom ersten Start an. Auf einem Rechner
mit Oberfläche ist das meiste ohnehin schon vorhanden. Wer sie ausdrücklich nicht
will, spielt mit --no-install-recommends ein — dann läuft das Programm
weiter, der betroffene Bereich sagt nur weniger.

That way all ten areas work from the first start. On a machine with a desktop most
of it is present anyway. If you explicitly do not want them, install with
--no-install-recommends — the program keeps working, that area simply
says less.
